Strong Palestinian Support for Upcoming Elections and Political Renewal

Please find attached a new analytical study authored by Dr. Nabil Kukali, Founder and President of the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO), entitled:

“Palestinians and the Upcoming Elections: When Economics Becomes the Gateway to Politics – An Analytical Reading of Palestinian Public Opinion Trends.”

The study is based on a nationally representative public opinion survey conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) in June 2026 and examines Palestinian attitudes toward the upcoming legislative, National Council, and presidential elections, as well as the relationship between political participation and current economic and social conditions.

Among the key findings:

• 79.4% of Palestinians support holding Legislative Council and Palestinian National Council elections in 2026.
• 83.6% support holding Palestinian presidential elections in 2027.
• 71.3% intend to participate in the elections if they are held.
• 75.4% would accept the election results even if their preferred party or list does not win.
• 54.7% believe the most important objective of the elections should be improving economic and living conditions.
• 78.7% support the recent electoral reforms, including increasing youth and women’s participation and lowering the electoral threshold.
• 82.4% believe that greater representation of youth and women would improve Palestinian political performance.
• 76.7% believe elections could contribute to improving economic and living conditions.
• 89.4% believe that free and fair elections would strengthen international confidence in Palestine and increase opportunities for investment and economic support.

The findings suggest that Palestinians increasingly view elections not merely as a mechanism for renewing political legitimacy, but as a pathway toward economic reform, improved governance, greater accountability, and renewed public confidence in political institutions.
