The goal of this survey is to investigate the opinions of the public regarding Abu Mazen's declarations concerning granting the Palestinian refugees who live in neighboring countries the right of citizenship by these countries. Further, the survey aims at revealing the position of the Palestinians from Abu Mazen's declarations regarding the attack of Natanya and the attacks of London along with other issues.

In the latest public opinion poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO):

(62.7%) Support the establishment of a transitory national unity government.
(49.1%) Of the respondents are to various degrees sympathetic with the United kingdom ( UK).
(49.7%) Of the respondents support to various the position of Abu Mazen with regard to the blowup operation in Natanya.
(43.9%) Of the respondents believe that the goal behind Abu Mazen's declarations is to minimize the principle of the right of the Palestinian refugees to return back to their lands.

In the latest poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) in the period from (13–18) of July, 2005 during different working hours, a random sample of (820) Palestinian adults over 18 years was included, representing the various demographic models of the Palestinian society in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip. Dr. Kukali, the Director of Palestinian Center for Public Opinion said that this survey reveals that the majority of the Palestinians are sympathetic with the United Kingdom concerning the attacks against the network of public transportation carried out on july7, 2005. Dr. Kukali added that (62.7%) of the respondents support the establishment of a national unity government.

Dr. Kukali also showed that (43.9%) of the respondents believe that the declarations of Abu Mazen to Abu Dhabi space channel concerning granting the right of citizenship to the Palestinian refugees who live in the neighboring Arab countries aim at minimizing the right of these refugees to return back to their occupied lands.

Dr. Kukali said the results of the poll were as follows:

London Attacks:

In answering the question: "Express the degree of your sympathy with the recent explosions of London on the seventh of July, 2005". (15.5%) of the respondents said that they greatly sympathize with the victims; (33.6%) said they sympathize with them to some extent; (23.0%) were to some extent not sympathetic with the victims, (17.6%) supported the attacks, and (10.3%) said they had no comment. Moreover, regarding the executor of the attacks, (10.7%) of the respondents believed that Usama Bin Laden planned the attacks of London; (28.5%) believed that the attacks were planned by the Base Organization; (26.6%) regarded the Jews as the executors; (4.4%) thought that Abu Mus'ab Al-Zarqawi planned these attacks; (13.2%) attributed them to the enemies of Islam and the Muslims; whereas (4.4%) of the respondents believed that other parties implemented the attacks. However, (12.2%) of the respondents refrained from answering the question.

A national Unity Government:

(62.7%) of the respondents supported the establishment of a transitory national unity government; (32.6%) supported the establishment of a special committee to administer the various affairs in Gaza Strip whereas (4.7%) of the respondents refused to answer the question.

The Attacks of Natanya:

Regarding the question:" Do you support the position of Abu Mazen in "recommending the utmost punishment against the executors of the attack of Natanya and all those who stand behind them " or in his " great condemnation and conviction of the terrorist attack executed on July 11, 2005 against civil Jews in the city of Natanya". (16.6%) of the respondents said that they support the positions of the president to a great extent; (33.1%) said they support this position to some extent, (26.5%) opposed this position to some extent; (22.5%) greatly opposed the president's position whereas (1.3%) gave no reply.

The Right of Return

Concerning Abu Mazen's declaration of his approval of granting the Palestinian refugees the right of citizenship by the Arab governments of the countries where these refugees live, (43.9%) of the respondents stated that this declaration aimed at minimizing the right of the refugees to return back (38.1%) believed that the declaration aimed at facilitating the living conditions of the Palestinian refugees in these countries; (16.1%) thought that the goal was to grant the Palestinian refugees the right to obtain a second nationality whereas (1.9%) of the respondents did not answer the question.

The President's Performance:

Concerning "the degree which you grant to Abu Mazen in his presidency of the Palestinian National Authority", the president got "5.50" points on a scale of ten points where "1" represented the lowest degree and "10" the highest.

Few facts about the poll

President of the PCPO, Dr. Nabil Kukali, stated that the poll was conducted July (13 – 18), 2005, and the interviews in that survey were carried out face to face inside the respondents’ homes, the choice of which is randomly performed according to PCPO’s long experienced scientific methodology. Elias Kukali, from the Public Relations Office at PCPO, said that the sampling error throughout the survey is found at (±3.42%). He added "the percentage of female respondents was (47.1%) whilst that of the male ones was (52.9%), and the percentage of married respondents in the sample added up to (65.3%), while that of the single ones reached (30.0%), and that of other cases was (4.7%).
